Rio Vista Lodge

The newest lodge on the Pacuare River

Completed in December 2022

Adventure & unwind at the Rio Vista Lodge

Completed in December 2022, this is the newest lodge on the Pacuare River. A short distance from our original Pacuare Eco-Lodge, Rio Vista has a stunning upriver view of the Pacuare and the jungle canyon. There is nothing better than completing a day of Pacuare river rafting and then sleeping in our first rate cabins.

Raft in, raft out

This is an experience-oriented lodge, meaning if you wish to stay here you must book one of our adventures: 2-Day Pacuare | 3-Day Raft+Zip, 4-Day Ultimate

Delightfully comfortable

The beds in our cabins are one of a kind: Custom built to our specifications and made by hand in Costa Rica. Complemented with both the softest cotton sheets we could source and the sound of the river, falling into a relaxing sleep won’t take long at all.

The view can’t be beat

Rio Vista Lodge was built facing south, directly upstream, giving you a long view of the Pacuare. Building Rio Vista higher up in the canyon is a key advantage of being immersed in the river and the canyon, something that only our sister lodge has and no one else has can do.

Rio Vista Lodge

Adventure or relax, Rio Vista has it all.

Raft or Zipline in. Either way, you’re home

We’ve connected our two lodges with a zipline, giving you easy access to our zipline course and Tarzan swing. Rio Vista is also close to our nearby creek – appropriately named Linda Creek – with fun hiking access to two private swimming holes and jump rocks. For the brave souls, one jump rock is 27 feet, and the other is smaller at about six feet.

Explore Rio Vista Lodge

We have 9 free-standing cabins located at Rio Vista Lodge. Each cabin has its own private bathroom and hot shower. The bed arrangements can be either two twins or a queen, which we’ve sourced locally in Costa Rica to find the softest most comfortable bedding material in the country.

Linda Creek flanks the lodge and our other lodge, Pacuare Eco-Lodge, just upriver. As we explored the creek, we found two wonderful swimming holes and jump rocks. One we call Salta Falls, a 27-foot jump and waterfall into a deep swimming hole. The second is called Macaw Drop and has a bigger swimming hole and a smaller jump. You’ll have the opportunity to check one of these swimming holes out if you are booked on our 3-Day Raft + Zip.

Our Pacuare zipline is primarily located at our other lodge a short distance away. The course has 9 different zips of varying heights, lengths, and speeds. Experiences that get the opportunity to explore our zipline course are the 3-Day Raft + Zip.

Our Tarzan Swing shoots you over a deep ravine in the Pacuare jungle on our 70-foot swing.

Why the Pacuare

“ …perhaps the greatest, family-friendly jungle raft trip in the world.”

Our school Riverstone International School had a fantastic time with Pacuare Outdoor Center. All guides were very knowledgeable and fun! They knew how to interact with students and made all the adventure excursions fun and exciting! The food, drivers and lodging was awesome as well! Students enjoyed the fact that they got choice for food in many areas. All activities were appropriate and fun. We especially enjoyed our homestay visit and loved getting to know all the our homestay families and to be able to celebrate with them was a highlight!

We had an amazing experience during our Pacuare River trip and lodging in the rainforest with POC! Our guides, Max, Arturio and Fernando were so friendly, fun and most of all, knowledgeable about everything! The hand-prepared meals were outstanding. They completely catered to my food allergies and prepared a feast for us in the middle of the jungle, not to be believed. The private bungalow had an incredible view of the river and was pristinely decorated.

Not enough good things to say about how outstanding the experience is with POC! You think you have an idea of how much fun you will have. You think you know how well you will be treated. You think you know the amount of beauty you will experience. All of those thoughts will be exceeded beyond what you can imagine. Just book. Go. Live. Enjoy. The outstanding memories will last you a lifetime.

After much planning and conversation about wanting to do an adventure together, my friend, Sara and I chose to do a Costa Rican adventure that would challenge us both in different ways. We love the outdoors and the exhilaration of doing something different and adventuresome, We found it!!! Our experience with POC was wonderful. We rappelled down waterfalls, whitewater rafted, zip lined, hiked, and did the tarzan swing and SUP. We always felt safe and encouraged (even when I was bit out of my comfort zone) as our guides explained every activity thoroughly, gave us an opportunity to practice (when possible), and were incredibly competent in each of their areas of expertise. Rafa, our main guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about anything we wanted to know about Costa Rica and our fearless leader in getting us from place to place. We trusted him for our well being as we participated in the activities. He was kind, confident, and easy to talk to as well. Our other guides: Johan (repelling) was always cool calm and collect . Max (white water rafting, zip lining, tarzan swing) had a great sense of humor an expert in all, and knew how to help people feel comfortable to engage in experiences that were new to them. Walter (SUP) was a pleasure to be with as we shared the calm of the river and his incredible knowledge of the wildlife and scenery we observed. Chene (our kayaker extraordinaire) was there to rescue us, should we have a rafting mishap, which, fortunately we did not need. and we so appreciated Julian for being behind the camera lens. This will be trip that will live forever in our hearts and our soul. Thanks to a great team for making this a most memorable trip!!!
