2-Day Highlights

On day one, we spend the day rafting Class II and III rapids and arrive at Rio Vista Lodge. Once settled in, we’ll tackle the heart-pounding Tarzan Swing, slinging you 200 feet off the ground. After dinner, we’ll fall asleep to the sound of the jungle tucked in our comfortable cabins. The next morning it’s back to whitewater, this time with back to back Class IVs in the Pacaure Gorge. After dozens of rapids, the trip concludes in the town of Siquirres.

Trip Itinerary

We meet at La Cruz, which is near the town of Turrialba. The Pacuare River consists of progressive rafting, meaning day one starts us off with great warm up Class II and III, giving us plenty of time for the big Class IV whitewater the following day. Halfway through the day, we’ll stop for lunch which will be prepared by your guides. After lunch, we will paddle another 40 minutes to Rio Vista Lodge, the newest lodge on the Pacuare River. Here you’ll take a 10 minute trek through the jungle to get to our lodge which features breath-taking views of the Pacuare River canyon and surrounding mountains. Once you get settled into your room, you can enjoy the views or you can join us for our Tarzan Hour. We do this with all our groups at 4PM. During the Tarzan Hour, we take you to our Tarzan Swing which is a three minute walk from the lodge and cabins and you get to experience one of the most adrenaline-pumping Tarzan swings you will find in the Americas. This is a great activity for the afternoon and if you’re not up for the rush you can watch from our viewing area while enjoying a cup of coffee or simply relax at the lodge. In the evening we will have dinner prepared for you while you listen to the rainforest come to life as the sun dips and the night begins.

The next morning on Day 2, you will wake up to the sun rising over the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Our lodge has views in the morning directly down the canyon towards the Caribbean. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll walk down to the rafts and launch immediately into POC Rapid which is just downstream. From here we’ll raft Class II and III whitewater until we hit the famous Pacuare Gorge – get ready for some Class IV rapids! The tightening of the canyon also means that the side creeks get more dramatic with waterfalls pouring directly into the river. This is like nothing you’ll find anywhere else. Similar to day one, we’ll take a break halfway through the day for a lunch prepared by the guides, and then it’s more rafting. After we pass through the famous Dos Montanas section of the river, we float into the town of Siquirres, which is our takeout. Changing rooms and showers are available here, and once the rafts are loaded up, you’ll say bye to your guides (but we know you’ll be back, this trip is that good).

Our school Riverstone International School had a fantastic time with Pacuare Outdoor Center. All guides were very knowledgeable and fun! They knew how to interact with students and made all the adventure excursions fun and exciting! The food, drivers and lodging was awesome as well! Students enjoyed the fact that they got choice for food in many areas. All activities were appropriate and fun. We especially enjoyed our homestay visit and loved getting to know all the our homestay families and to be able to celebrate with them was a highlight!

We had an amazing experience during our Pacuare River trip and lodging in the rainforest with POC! Our guides, Max, Arturio and Fernando were so friendly, fun and most of all, knowledgeable about everything! The hand-prepared meals were outstanding. They completely catered to my food allergies and prepared a feast for us in the middle of the jungle, not to be believed. The private bungalow had an incredible view of the river and was pristinely decorated.

Not enough good things to say about how outstanding the experience is with POC! You think you have an idea of how much fun you will have. You think you know how well you will be treated. You think you know the amount of beauty you will experience. All of those thoughts will be exceeded beyond what you can imagine. Just book. Go. Live. Enjoy. The outstanding memories will last you a lifetime.

After much planning and conversation about wanting to do an adventure together, my friend, Sara and I chose to do a Costa Rican adventure that would challenge us both in different ways. We love the outdoors and the exhilaration of doing something different and adventuresome, We found it!!! Our experience with POC was wonderful. We rappelled down waterfalls, whitewater rafted, zip lined, hiked, and did the tarzan swing and SUP. We always felt safe and encouraged (even when I was bit out of my comfort zone) as our guides explained every activity thoroughly, gave us an opportunity to practice (when possible), and were incredibly competent in each of their areas of expertise. Rafa, our main guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about anything we wanted to know about Costa Rica and our fearless leader in getting us from place to place. We trusted him for our well being as we participated in the activities. He was kind, confident, and easy to talk to as well. Our other guides: Johan (repelling) was always cool calm and collect . Max (white water rafting, zip lining, tarzan swing) had a great sense of humor an expert in all, and knew how to help people feel comfortable to engage in experiences that were new to them. Walter (SUP) was a pleasure to be with as we shared the calm of the river and his incredible knowledge of the wildlife and scenery we observed. Chene (our kayaker extraordinaire) was there to rescue us, should we have a rafting mishap, which, fortunately we did not need. and we so appreciated Julian for being behind the camera lens. This will be trip that will live forever in our hearts and our soul. Thanks to a great team for making this a most memorable trip!!!
