2-Day Highlights

On day one, we spend the day rafting Class II and III rapids and arrive at Rio Vista Lodge. Once settled in, we’ll tackle the heart-pounding Tarzan Swing, slinging you 200 feet off the ground. After dinner, we’ll fall asleep to the sound of the jungle tucked in our comfortable cabins. The next morning it’s back to whitewater, this time with back to back Class IVs in the Pacaure Gorge. After dozens of rapids, the trip concludes in the town of Siquirres.

  • Includes a night at Rio Vista Lodge
  • Includes all meals starting with lunch on day 1 and ending with lunch on day 2.
  • Launches available Wednesday and Saturday

Trip Itinerary

We meet at La Cruz, which is near the town of Turrialba. The Pacuare River consists of progressive rafting, meaning day one starts us off with great warm up Class II and III, giving us plenty of time for the big Class IV whitewater the following day. Halfway through the day, we’ll stop for lunch which will be prepared by your guides. After lunch, we will paddle another 40 minutes to Rio Vista Lodge, the newest lodge on the Pacuare River. Here you’ll take a 10 minute trek through the jungle to get to our lodge which features breath-taking views of the Pacuare River canyon and surrounding mountains. Once you get settled into your room, you can enjoy the views or you can join us for our Tarzan Hour. We do this with all our groups at 4PM. During the Tarzan Hour, we take you to our Tarzan Swing which is a three minute walk from the lodge and cabins and you get to experience one of the most adrenaline-pumping Tarzan swings you will find in the Americas. This is a great activity for the afternoon and if you’re not up for the rush you can watch from our viewing area while enjoying a cup of coffee or simply relax at the lodge. In the evening we will have dinner prepared for you while you listen to the rainforest come to life as the sun dips and the night begins.

The next morning on Day 2, you will wake up to the sun rising over the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Our lodge has views in the morning directly down the canyon towards the Caribbean. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll walk down to the rafts and launch immediately into POC Rapid which is just downstream. From here we’ll raft Class II and III whitewater until we hit the famous Pacuare Gorge – get ready for some Class IV rapids! The tightening of the canyon also means that the side creeks get more dramatic with waterfalls pouring directly into the river. This is like nothing you’ll find anywhere else. Similar to day one, we’ll take a break halfway through the day for a lunch prepared by the guides, and then it’s more rafting. After we pass through the famous Dos Montanas section of the river, we float into the town of Siquirres, which is our takeout. Changing rooms and showers are available here, and once the rafts are loaded up, you’ll say bye to your guides (but we know you’ll be back, this trip is that good).

This one is a little late but here goes. Apologies for the long windedness but if it helps you decide to go, its worth the read. A few weeks ago we went on an adventure put together by the Pacuare Outdoor Center for the Hike Like a Woman group. They allowed spouses on this outing so it was my privilege to tag along. From beginning to end this was a completely amazing trip. Our daily guide was Imilay, and she was nothing short of outstanding. Always there to provide bits of information and knowledge about the areas that we traveled through. Never met anyone that can spot native wildlife as adeptly as she did from a moving tour vehicle. Our adventure was scripted with heaps of fun ranging from horse back riding, canyoning, rafting, ziplining and a super fun swing (Tarzan swing is a must!!!!!). Our guides for each segment were superb and they were experts at what they did. Dayron was excellent with the canyoning, our two day raft guide was Arturo and he made our entire raft of first timers feel comfortable and confident. David, Luis and Arturo all made the ziplines and tarzan swing events to remember. There were so many people involved with this that I couldn't catch all the names of the POC staff, but thank you for the truly fabulous meals and entertainment. All of the lodgings for the trip were fantastic and uniquely one of a kind experiences. To cap it all off when the trip ended, I forgot my phone on the tour bus. Any other time I would have written this off as lost for good. Tom (founder of POC), is making sure that the phone is getting returned to me, can't ask for much better service than that. Top notch all the way around. If you are thinking about a Costa Rica adventure, then these are the people you need to set it up. You won't be disappointed!!!!

This is a top-notch company that treats you like family instead of like a client. Kenneth and Andre were outstanding guides who made us feel at home, treated us with respect, watched out for our safety, and above all made it a trip to remember. All of the staff is outstanding. I really enjoyed the guys singing while they fixed the meals and I appreciated their sense of humor and easy-going ways. You won't regret booking with Pacuare!

We had so much fun last year that we came back a second time...and this time we brought a group of friends. There are a lot of things that make the POC special - but it really comes down to the staff and guides who treat us like family. They go out of their way to make sure that everyone is comfortable, taken care of, safe and happy. The activities offered by the POC are fun and amazing - from the tarzan swing to rafting. Adventure travel brought us to Costa Rica but we'll keep coming back again and again because we feel like we're part of the POC family. We highly recommend the POC if you're visiting Costa Rica and looking for an ethical, friendly, and professional guiding company.

Adventurers, look no further - book your trip with Pacuare outdoor center now! Our 4 day adventure was THE trip of a lifetime and the guides were a huge part of that. Raffael (Raffa) was our lead guide and Johnathan was our adventure guide. Between the two, we learned and experienced so much in the most fun, immersive, and cultural way possible. The Rio Vista lodge was outstanding and such a perfect location to disconnect and take in the surroundings…what a view!!!! The safety precautions and equipment for every single adventure were top notch! The food and hospitality was absolutely unbelievable! The river sounds at night and the amazing little bungalow style rooms were icing on the cake. I will DEFINITELY be coming back! Thank you to Raffa for your organizing everything and to Johnathan for your amazingly fun personality! Wouldn’t wanted to experience Costa Rica in any other way!

I go on holiday twice a year and out of all my experiences ranging from all inclusive resorts to 5 star hotels this is absolutely the most memorable and enjoyable experience out of all. If you enjoy adventure and looking for an authentic but still luxurious jungle experience look no further! The guides are so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable while spoiling you. 10/10 PURA VIDA!!
