Looking for waterfalls in the Turrialba area? There are many, and two of our favorites are Aquiares<\/a> and Cataratas las Trillizas<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catarata del Toro is the largest waterfall in Costa Rica at 270 feet (82 meters). This waterfall is located in Bajos del Toro, the \u201cwaterfall capital of Costa Rica.\u201d The waterfall is on private property<\/a>, and they charge a small fee to access the falls and grounds. This waterfall is great as a roughly three-hour long detour to or from La Fortuna and San Jose and is worth the $14 per person entrance fee (2024 rates).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note that the area is closed on Sundays, however, according to this YouTube video<\/a>, if you rent rooms at the location on Sunday, then you can access the falls on the closed day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swimming is not allowed at the waterfall, however, you can book a guided rappelling down it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their website doesn\u2019t specify the cutoff ages for adult\/youth, outside of 3 and younger are free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are open six days a week, being closed on Sundays. Their hours are 7AM to 5PM, with the last entrance at 4:30PM.

Getting to the falls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Walking to the falls requires descending 350+ stairs (takes about 20 minutes if you don\u2019t stop) to get to the base of the falls. Along the way, there are very scenic viewpoints at the top of the canyon, which don\u2019t require any stair climbing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep in mind as you get closer to the falls, the terrain gets more and more slippery, especially so as you leave the paved bottom viewing area and walk towards the very bottom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four weel drive\/4\u00d74 is not necessary for this waterfall as it is paved up until the parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
